National Mezcal Day: A Celebration of Smoke, Spirit & Soul
Every October 21st, we raise our copitas to National Mezcal Day—a toast to Mexico’s most soulful spirit and the ancient art of its creation. Mezcal is more than a drink; it’s a cultural legacy, a ritual of patience, and a reminder that true pleasure takes time. At Hedonistas de la Fe, we honor that legacy with every pour, every batch, and every sip.
Our story begins deep in Oaxaca, where our maestro mezcalero hand-harvests agaves that have taken years—sometimes decades—to mature under the sun. Each variety tells its own tale. Espadín mezcal, harvested after 6–8 years, offers a balance of smoke and sweetness—the gateway to mezcal for many. Tobalá, Cuishe, and Tepeztate are all 100% wild agaves, each thriving in rugged terrain and maturing at its own rhythm: Tobalá after 10–12 years, Cuishe after 13–15, and Tepeztate after an astonishing 20–22. These wild expressions embody the heart of authentic mezcal, made only in small batches to preserve their individuality.
To celebrate National Mezcal Day, skip the shot glass. Sip slowly from a clay copita or jícara to appreciate the spirit’s layered notes—herbal, floral, mineral, and smoky. Pair your mezcal with orange slices sprinkled with sal de gusano, dark chocolate, or even a few roasted nuts.
Whether you’re a curious newcomer or a lifelong mezcal devotee, today is the perfect day to celebrate the artistry, patience, and soul behind every bottle.
Sip slow. Savor deep. Celebrate the best mezcal, the spirit of Oaxaca, made by Hedonistas de la Fe. Salud.
